Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (MIPS) is extremely active in a number of areas. MIPS has leading researchers in the area of modulating activity of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) which are drug targets for a large number of  existing  pharmaceuticals. MIPS has developed GPCR expertise comprising technology, research facilities and world leading scientists that enable it to conduct fundamental research, drug discovery and preclinical drug development activities on GPCR targets with therapeutic potential including fields such  as  metabolism, 心脏病学, neurology and psychiatry, 风湿病学, 和肿瘤.

Monash is involved in a significant collaboration with Servier, a French pharmaceutical company, to develop new drugs against GPCRs. This collaboration has recently been renewed (for a total of 5 years) and involves significant resources (15  FTEs).  In  addition to progress milestone payments, Monash will receive royalties for any products developed as a result of the collaboration.
