Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Senior Vice-President - Professor Rebekah Brown
Professor Rebekah Brown is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Senior Vice-President, 提供领导, direction and advocacy for the University's research agenda. Professor Brown has a distinguished record of research and scholarship in urban sustainable development practices. She is Director of the major multinational and multidisciplinary Revitalising Informal Settlements and their Environments (RISE) program, leading a team of over 150 researchers and staff to work with 24 settlements in Fiji and Indonesia, with the aim to provide evidence that a localised, water sensitive approach to revitalising informal settlements can deliver sustainable, cost-effective health and environmental improvements; paving the way for further deployments in the region and globally.
She has also led the development of a number of new major transdisciplinary research initiatives at Monash, 包括《mg游戏网址大全》, a new program addressing community resilience following bushfires in Australia, funded by two major philanthropic gifts totalling $50 million.
Her research is focused on understanding the social and institutional transformations required to accelerate transitions to more liveable, resilient and sustainable cities. Her research demonstrates a deep commitment to positive societal change through sustainable development.

She was a Board Member of the Environmental Protection Authority Victoria from 2017 to 2020 and in 2017 was elected by her peers a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. She began her career as a civil engineer working on major international infrastructure projects before retraining as a research social scientist.
Professor Brown holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) from mg游戏网址大全 and a PhD in Environmental Studies from the University of New South Wales.
